Michael Rothenberg - Writer/Director/Editor
Michael Rothenberg brings 23 years of professional
experience and an unusually broad background to film
and video projects. His projects have won numerous industry
awards - three Emmy Awards, cable's ACE Awards, as well
as ITVA Golden Reel, Cindy, and AMI Gold Awards.
Michael skipped his college graduation ceremony (1980
B.A. in English from Harvard) because he was already
working as a cameraman for local TV productions and
creating multimedia art incorporating film, video and
computer graphics. He cut his teeth in local cable TV,
shooting and editing local political coverage and high
school athletics, and later local spots. In the mid-eighties,
he moved into the advertising world and became a sought-after
freelance commercial editor and assistant director.
In 1987, Michael joined Spotwise, a broadcast promotion
agency and production company, as senior editor. There
he edited hundreds of spots, supervising the entire
post-production process, and in 1989 began directing
and writing promo campaigns as well.
In 1991, Michael established himself as an independent
editor and post production consultant, editing national
and regional advertising for a variety of agencies and
clients. Meanwhile, many of his corporate clients remembered
his writing and directing abilities, and it wasn't long
before he began to provide production services as well
non-linear digital editing. In '95 he formed an editing
partnership with Picture Park, a commercial production
company, while over the last several years giving high-concept
creative direction to external and internal business
communications, from marketing videos and employee newsmagazine
programs to trade show openers and closers.
Michael established Peak Productions in 1999 to extend
a fuller range of services to corporate and broadcast
clients. As executive producer, he helps to shape the
story and message, and maintains that vision as director.
Peak Productions also offers a full range of digital
editorial services, from offline to compositing and
finishing. Projects outside the corporate realm include
PBS documentaries, public health awareness campaigns,
promos, and television commercials.
Influencing and shaping his work are Michael's lifelong
interests in American literature and photography, along
with his appreciation of the natural world and scientific
wonders. He is a beginning guitar student and wishes
he had more time for golf and tennis.
